Reflection: During this time of quarantine, I have been trying to use my time as effectively as possible. I’ve been seeing this time as a great way to do the things that I’ve always wanted to do, but never got the time to do, this time is an opportunity to do all that. One of the things that I’ve always wanted to do is cook, which I have been doing a lot lately. I wasn’t that great initially, but following recipes and learning from family members has made me stronger in terms of trusting myself alone in the kitchen. I’ve had bad experiences in the past in the kitchen and it took a lot to go back there and learn how to cook, and I feel like I haven’t only learnt how to cook, but also gained confidence. I have learnt that retrying something only makes you better and when you keep trying, it becomes even better. I’ve been cooking a lot lately, I’ve baked cookies, cakes, crape cakes, made mac and cheese, and churros. I did fail a couple of times, which was expected, but I took that failure in a positive way to learn from my mistakes and not repeat them the next time, do the things that I did well and improve upon the things that didn’t go so well. This experience has made me a better cook, more confident, and has taught me so many things that I would have never been able to do if this phase of quarantine never came. I learnt how to find the positive in everything and be grateful for everything we get, because there’s always something positive that can be done from the worst times.

Reflection: Me and the other two leaders of LOL decided to continue making soap from our failures last time. After gaining assistance from a teacher that is a professional in this area, we made soaps. We got our first order of 100 soaps for the CAS showcase event in our school to give to our seniors. We made various different soaps with various different fragrances, scents, designs, quantities, shapes, and colors. Initially we learnt how to make the cold processed soap from scratch and then executed making the 100 soap bars for the event. We made a budget and made a list of required things and after receiving them, we made the 100 bars within 2 weeks with the assistance of teachers. This experience taught me how to work collaboratively with others and also made me realize that gaining failure again and again can be seen as a benefit and that can be seen through the success that we gained in the fourth attempt we had of making soap in these 2 years. This success portrayed our hard work and dedication to the idea of soap making and execution of our plan.

Reflection: In the Youth's for SDGs event I was a youth leader and this was my second year being a youth leader. Being a youth leader, we had been planning this event about 6 months before it was executed. We had discussion rooms, where the SDG that I was handling was gender equality and my booth was regarding the SDG poverty. This event helped me learn so many new things related to the SDGs and their significance. Since it was my second year, I also had some insight upon the events and what was going to happen, therefore I could help new people, making new connections and friendships. This event made me realize that something as small as a booth can make people realize about the situation of hunger in the world, which was quite eye opening. Spreading the messages in such a way was exciting, fun, and quite knowledgable.

Reflection: This event took place for 3 days and it is an inter schools event. A couple other people and I led a scavenger hunt as an ice breaker and booth. This event led to a lot of new experiences and a lot of new things. Meeting new people and forming new bonds was a major achievement. Another thing was that it allowed me to understand the importance of so many things that I might not even consider in my everyday life, this realisation came especially through the talks that we had and heard, since they talked about things that we might not realize in our everyday life but have a great impact in our lives or either we have a great impact on the everyday lives of these things. This was my second year going to a servICE event. This time we led a scavenger hunt regarding the SDGs and had a booth for our club Love Ocean Life (LOL).

Reflection: The competition was based on an apocalyptic scenario where natural disasters and man-made tragedies combined to make an area inaccessible to humans. Designing robots that could enter the area delivering medical supplies and replanting trees in appropriate locations stretched the engineering and designing skills of all teams. Our team decided and planned out our robot and how it was going to work for quite long and it made it better for us to compete. The preparation started a couple of weeks before the competition and made us stronger competitors. This competition made me realize that trying things that I would have never tried is something that can be very beneficial since it makes one realize about what their true passion or interests are.  This was my second year taking a part in the competition.
